Ashland University has, since its founding in 1878, made a commitment to providing a transformative learning experience for each person to become who they were designed to be. That mission, over time, through the forging fires of all the history made since that point, has been distilled to the simple but incredibly impactful Accent on the Individual. Because of this focus, generations of Eagles have been transformed, along with their families, their communities and the world at large.
But now, we’ve gone further. We’ve planted the fruits of Accent on the Individual in the fertile soil of our history, and what has sprouted is The Ashland Promise.
This Promise is the direct outpouring of the passion that guided our founders to create a place where students could learn and grow into the people they were meant to be. This Promise is the collective echo of all the individual voices from our history calling you into your future. This Promise is the fuel for the kind of transformative experiences that can only happen here.

We promise to teach you how to think, not what to think. We promise to work with you to create an individualized plan for your future, and we promise you an affordable education. We promise you will be guided by mentors invested in you as an individual. They will, within a diverse community of respect, design personalized transformative experiences to develop you as a person who works, serves and leads with integrity. And we promise you a lifelong commitment as we continue to help you discern your life calling and make a positive impact on your family, community and the world at large.
